I'm My Own Dog

by David Ezra Stein
Summary

Many dogs have human owners. Not this dog. He fetches his own slippers, curls up at his own feet and gives himself a good scratch. But there is one spot that he just can't reach. So one day, he lets a human scratch it. And the poor little chap follows him home. What can the dog do but get a lead so he can take the chap around?

Original Review

This witty book follows an independent and confident dog as he takes care of himself. One day he gains companionship with a human while he gets under the dog’s skin. This book is great for young readers to find humor in the reversed human-dog relationship. The cartoon art style and watercolor illustrations add a cheerful mood. The limited text makes this book great for read-alouds for younger readers and the humor will catch the attention of older children. Ages 4-8
